Joyland’s Swimming Pool
|
Joyland’s swimming pool was once one of the park’s most popular summertime attractions, offering Wichita families a place to cool off, gather, and spend long afternoons together. Located within the early Joyland grounds, the large public pool featured diving boards, ladders, lifeguard stands, and plenty of room for children and adults to swim, splash, and relax.
During the warm Kansas summers, the pool added another layer to the Joyland experience. Visitors could enjoy the rides, games, and midway, then escape the heat with a swim. Historic photographs show the pool filled with families, children, and swimmers, capturing a time when Joyland served not only as an amusement park, but also as a community recreation destination. Though later generations often remember Joyland for its roller coaster, carousel, Whacky Shack, and other rides, the swimming pool remains an important part of the park’s early history and its role as a beloved gathering place for Wichita. |
